Evans Halshaw not honoring deal

My mum is after a new car. We were looking on various car dealers websites a couple of days ago. She decided she would like a new focus or Mondeo and use her 1998 Escort for scrappage. We found a brilliant deal advertised on the Evans Halshaw Ford website for a brand new Mondeo Edge was £20,045 now £12,774 a massive saving of £7,271.
She went to the dealership yeasterday, and spoke to the salesman who didn't know anything about the deal, she had printed it off. The salesman said his manager wasn't in but they set about looking for a car. They managed to find one in the country so the salesman asked them to go back today and arrange the finance. He wouldn't accept a deposit.
They have been contacted by the manager who has said they wont honor the deal, using several excuses like, there are no cars available (althou they found one yesterday), the deal doesn't start until the new year, the offer has been withdrawn (it's still advertised on their website) and many other excuses
Now my Dad has sent an email to OFT to ask them to investigate.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how else to proceed? She is really keen on the car, they are also looking at other dealers to see if anyone else can do a good deal.
Thanks

Not a lot you can do, they don't have any contract with you and they were doing the right thing for them in refusing a deposit . Pendragon PLC are very well versed in the advertising game and I guess there was a car somewhere in group stock with that deal. It may have only be available via the website as they do sell direct.
Personally I would keep looking as EH have been known to add on extra charges to the advertised price and there are lots of other Ford dealers around anyway. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
Judging by the experience of other MSEers, you have had a lucky escape.
I recall looking at cars at Evans Halshaw some time ago, and their prices were laughable.
You'll no doubt find a better deal (and probably better customer service) elsewhere.0 -
The deal is still on their website Here.
Try clicking on the enquire now button let them get back to you to sell it otherwise find another car."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Would be interesting if someone fought one of these one day.
So the question would be how many were supplied at that price?0 -

This was where honestjohn was suggesting in November which will exclude scrappage
Ford Mondeo Hatchback 1.8 Tdci Edge 5Dr Prereg £14,128.00 £5,717.000 -
It looks like a web only offer and at the end of the day most sales are 'an invitation to treat' no contract is made out until both sides agree normally by leaving a deposit or signing contracts.
There are parts of Pendragon that do direct selling and the dealers are not always involved this could be the case but I guess you might be flogging a dead horse on this one. An advert is one thing but buying it is another! These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

None actually have to be sold at that price, they just need to have been available at the time the advert was placed. And it is subject to the retailers terms and conditions which could well exclude almost everything! These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
