Gas Hob - Knobs Sticking

Have a Zanussi gas hob and one of the knobs that you push down and turn to release the gas before pressing the ignition button keeps sticking. Anyone know of an easy way to fix this. One knob is permanently stuck so its quite hard to turn back and forth and another is starting to get that way. I assume its just a build up of grease..

You should be able to pull or prise the knobs off to clean underneath them as they do get clogged up with grease & dust over a period of time.

If they are still sticking a bit after cleaning, to make it easier to turn the knobs a squirt of WD40 will do the trick. It's a great product to keep around the house & comes in useful for so many things. Woolworths or any diy/hardware store will stock it.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Behind the knob is a gas control. You'll probably find it has dried up or has debris in it. It needs cleaning and lubricating.
To do this, you need to get someone who knows how to take it apart and service it.

Robowen is quite right about this. The gas !!!! that controls the supply of gas to the ring can be made of either aluminium or brass. These need to be lubricated with a special gas !!!! grease. It is possible that if you continue to use it , it could seize in the open position. So be aware of where your emergency gas control is, generally next to the gas meter. And it's always a good idea to check that its not seized either. For a job such as this it would probably be best to contact an appliance repair shop that is Corgi registered or your local Zanussi agent.....all the best , Brian.

Rob............It was a work colleague of mine that first introduced me to MSE and now I'm addicted to it. He has a very dry sense of humour. Yesterday I was telling him about the stealth censoring device that the MSE site uses. And he said "What happens if you live in Scunthorpe?"................... Brian
