Joint Mortgage Advice

Options
Hi my sister has a joint property with her husband worth around £130k and the house is fully paid off ..

But she wants to release some money from her property so she can get her kitchen done up...

The only thing is her husband says he's not willing to do this and won't sign any papers to get a loan out...

Now as the property is on joint ownership can she take some money from the house without getting her husband involved..? if yes then how should she go about it...

thanks in advance

Whether she can or not does not seem to be the point here.

How would she feel if this was done to to her i.e. he was to take out money from the property to do something she did not want done?

On what basis are the financial arrangements concerning the payment for this house?

It seems we're trying to go down the road of a very long post I saw the other day on here, where some bloke had lost his house because his wife and her mortgage adviser had faked his signature on documents for further lending to support her failing business. This tale also included them getting a third person in to impersonate the husband.

Not 100% sure the post was actually true, but from the above you can easily see how these things start!

a joint mortgage needs both signatures for anything as you are both jointly and severally responsible for the debt.

is a new kitchen really worth all this deceit and lies and all the bother it will cause in the end ?

Doesnt sound like the relationship is in the best of shape if she is considering trying to go behind his back on lending against the jointly owned property. Personally would question if further credit is the right thing to be doing if there are these issues.
