Service unreliable Dyson or buy new (Henry)?

My Dyson animal was playing up and had poor suction. Then I discovered that it could be dismantled and was actually bunged up with some huge bits of dog chews which had then caused hair and dust to accumulate. It's worth having a good look at yourself or get someone without a dust allergy to do it. There are lots of parts which unclip around the back of the base. I can only describe them as the tubes which lead to the dust tank, they all seem to be designed to unclip if you look.
Once I unbunged it it has been like new again and have been very happy with it. Is now five years old .
I've found the 'newer' Dyson is far more sturdy and reliable than the previous one I had which was when they were quite new to the market.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
Even at 1/2 power(600w), Henry s powerful enough for most don't be fooled with the "1600" watt, only problem is being "Fat" it take up more room in a cupboard. Dont buy any Bags, there cheaper on e-bay in any cas you can use the bag more than once, simply slit the bag, empty, then fold over 1/2" and eith sellotape or use 4 old pegs to seal, works fine.0

I use a Henry at my office and he's absolutely wonderful there (contract-type carpets with hardly any pile and hard floors). Also wonderful for valeting the car. I have brought him home as our old vacuum recently broke and he's not quite so good on the slightly "fluffier" carpet types - we don't have anything too fluffy but without the beater bar action that I'm used to on the old upright it just didn't seem to get all the bits out of the pile without a lot of hard work. I have the turbo head (?aerobrush) and this is great for pet hair that sits on top of the carpet but it is a surface tool rather than a deep beater brush if you see what I mean.
I too would love a Miele but can't afford it just yet. I've settled for a cheapish £50 Vax upright pet thingy from Comet for the time being which seems to be a pretty good vacuum for the price and will save to get a Miele when the Vax dies!0 -
I've got a Dyson & I also have paid the £65 service charge I think it was, 2 years ago (now £69), to get them to come out. It is a set fee, you pay no extras & they replaced
Motor (probably sawdust)
Hose (My fault split it)
Dust bucket (my fault dropped it)
Cable (my fault jammed in door)
Wheel (My fault dropped it)
Brush (unsure)
Filter (didn't even look that bad)
Some screws & other little bits of hose etc
Was like having a brand new one, amazing, so I'll do the same if it goes funny again. I know a 'new' machine will never cost me more than the service charge. Only thing I MIGHT upgrade to at one point is a ball one. You get a 5 year guarantee on the newer ones, they do send someone out very quickly. I wasn't keen on my original DC01 I got when they first came out, my partner even told Mr Dyson (not intentionally he was chatting to him when at work then found out who he was) what he thought & actually the issues are rectified with the new ones..
Mine is an 'animal' version, I paid £120 in B&Q sale and nothing I've ever had cleans quite like it, especially when we had 3 dogs. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200

Just wondering what to do. I've got an old unreliable Dyon stored in my dad's garage, which we replaced with a superlative Miele machine last year.
I'm moving out into my first home and obviously need a new vacuum cleaner, (and much as I'd like to I can't afford a Miele) so my question is....
Do I a) go for the cheaper option and get the old Dyson serviced at £69 and risk having a machine that is just as unreliable and rubbish at doing its intended job or...
b) Spend £40 more and go for a new Henry Xtra machine with the special turbo head and filter (online at £110)?
Has anyone had their Dyson serviced and has it improved matters? (On ours the suction was rubbish and was terrible at picking up the dog hairs, despite being the animal version).
Has anyone any experience of Henry machines - are they worth the money/reliable etc?
If not, can anyone suggest an alternative, which is bagged (I have dust allergies and the Dyson made me sneeze when I emptied it!), preferrably a pull-along, and has a tool for dog hairs?
BTW I have two collies so I need something with a niff filter too!
Many thanks in advance,

A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
I also swapped a dyson for a henry and wouldn't go back to a dyson, I think the Henry is excellent value for money0

Had many Dysons over the years but they never seemed to last very well and pet hairs seemed to clog them up very easily.
A few years ago I bought a Hetty-pink Henry and have never looked back. It is amazing and I wish that I had bought one years ago instead of buying the more expensive Dysons.0
