Travelling to London cheaply

I'm wanting to take my family to London for a day out in August from Hull and have found that the price of train tickets are ridiculous. I'm looking for some discount codes for travelling buy any of the major rail companies going from either Hull, Doncaster, York or Sheffield. I know that Midland Mainline have offers on every now and then but I need the codes to get the cheap tickets.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you called Hull Trains to see what they can offer? Have you priced up single tickets there and back on something like Trainline? I went a couple of weeks ago (Monday after work and back from London the following evening) and I managed to get a single to Kings Cross on Hull Trains for £15, and a single from Kings Cross back the next day for £23. It is worth doing some investigating on the 'single ticket' route - or consider 'breaking' your route, ie Hull - Peterborough, then Peterborough - Kings Cross. You don't, of course, actually get off the train, but have to make sure that the train you are on does stop at your 'change' station. Sounds complicated, but loads of people seem to do it. There was an article in last Saturday's Guardian Travel supplement. Hope this helps.
Edited to say: Just did a search for an eg date Tues 15 August. 0700 leave Hull arr Kings X 0947 - £13.50 GNER Standard Advance 2 single ticket. Come back on 1900 train from Kings X, arr Hull 2145 - £17.50 GNER Standard Advance 3 single ticket. Thats £31 for the overall journey. Not sure what its like if you are limited to weekends, though.Taking control, slowly.:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Hi
That is a lot of travelling for one day. Are you planning to stop over? If so then you can get £1 fares each way from Sheffield with https://www.megabus.com or https://www.nationalexpress.com.
You would have to search out the best days for fares and book in advance but the journey is 3.50 hrs. However, travelling by train you come into the North London stations and then have to travel across London to get where you want and that takes time also. There are a lot of cheap hotel deals in London over the school holidays.0
