Barclaycard question

I have a Barclaycard which I had a late payment on 3 months ago which was down to a error by them I had my credit limited reinstated with my 0% and my late payment fee refunded.

I checked my card online today and have noticed my limit was reduced to £300 I phoned BC and asked why and they said there was a late payment placed on my credit file I told them it was them and explained the situation.

They said they would send a form to another department about getting limit reinstated but it would take 5 days.

What are the chances of this getting reinstated or does anyone have a phone number for this other department.

Many Thanks

  • It will be if it was their mistake.

Make sure the late payment strike is also removed from your credit file. Barclaycard need to do this.

  • Hi

    Thanks,

At the time BC said that they cannot take off late payments off your credit file and as I understand from other posters that is correct.

Im just miffed to why reinstate something because they want to I guess keep me as a customer but when credit files are updated they decrease my limit after a late payment. Why reinstate it all in the first place !!

    :confused::confused:

No that's not correct. If they have made an error they need to correct your credit file.

If they refuse then they are providing inaccurate data under the Data Protection Act.

Equifax and Experian can still query the data for the payments and have that corrected.
  • Hi
Barclaycard have now reinstated my account but have passed regarding the credit limit to a underwriter they are now saying it is reduced because I pay off in full each month. But I wanted to book a holiday and use the card for this if they do not reinstate how can I now build my credit limit back ie make a large payment well as large as I can on my £250 then pay over 6 months for example !!

... they reduced your credit limit because you pay them back?

I don't doubt you. I'm just in shock at it lol. Crazy.

Of course you do. Every time you use your card they get interchange fees from those involved.

I've just been bemused by Barclaycard - for no apparent reason, and without telling me in advance they've reduced my limit from £3k to £500!
I only found out when I tried to pay for some petrol - customer services were worse than a chocolate teapot as to offer an explanation.
I have a good salary, no debt, own house no mortgage, pay off my card in full by direct debit - I've checked with Experian, my credit rating is excellent.
    It's all a bit of a shock!
I'll await their explanation with interest but the bottom line is that unless the credit limit is re-instated, the card is worse than useless.

My guess is that this is a less than subtle way of limiting the amount of cashback they will have to pay out.
