Credit card fraud - can I get full refund for a foreign transaction?

Options
My credit card company contacted me just before Christmas to say that there had been a suspected fraud on my card. The transaction was for £66.55 to an IT company in Australia. I told them I didn't recognise this and the card was cancelled. I just received my statement and although the transaction was refunded, it was not for the full amount. The transaction was for $115.36 Aus Dollars and they refunded the amount at the current exchange rate, so I received £61.79 rather than £66.55.

I guess this is not alot different, but it's kind of annoying because I thought I would receive the full amount back.

Anyone know anything about this? Thanks

You should be able to - the only way to find out is to contact your credit card company.

It would be different if were a refund on a genuine transaction - there you take the exchange risk.

Just for fun - let's ask the question - if it had gone the other way and you ended up with more money - would you offer it back to the bank?
