Nephew has a Dell laptop with Vista installed. He is forever moaningit is slow, even after restoring to original state. He wants to remove Vista and install XP.
He has a XP disc from his old pc he no longer use. Is it as simple as installing the disc to his laptop and start it up?

You/he would need to boot from the XP fisc. FORMAT the hardrive (Id recommend a FULL format). Then follow the simple set up instructions (You will need the original XP KEY though, if you dont have it then you cant get XP running)
Once the operating system is installed youll need all the drivers loading (graphics card, ethernet or whatevers needed):idea:0 -
Erm...no. Make sure that you have all of the XP drivers before you begin....beacause there may be none. Spot the XP Driver In addition you need to check if any changes need to be made within the BIOS.0

Is the disc he has a full retail copy of XP or an OEM copy that came with a previous machine?
If' it's an OEM one it is tied to the previous machine and technically he shouldn't install it on another machine as he would be breaking the license agreement.
If your nephew is a school pupil or student a better choice would be to get a cheap copy of Windows 7 and put that on. It's unlikely therre would be any driver issues and Windows 7 is far superior to Vista or XP.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Well I did mean that (I thought it was sort of obvious youd need them):idea:0
