QUESTION: Allience and Leicester eSaver issue 2

I've just been trying to transfer money into this account for the first time.

My other bank account requires the account number and sort code to transfer to this one. (presumably 8 digit) There's also a box for a ref number.

I have:

A Sortcode
An 11 digit account number (which apparently goes in the ref number box)
An 8 digital customer id
A 5 digit pin

I wasn't given 'an 8 digit account number'

What gives?

I've tried entering the customer id as the bank account number, see if that works.

Sorry, I'm not able to answer your question, but A&L are up to Online Saver Issue 6 now (I believe it replaced e-savers)

It may be worthwhile, if you talk to them later today to sort it out, to open the latest one to get a better rate. They should be able to do it while you're speaking...

    Try them on 0844 800 9000 (Savings) or 0844 800 1144 (Internet Banking)

    From their website: http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/customer-service/user-guides/savings/online-savings/page1.aspx

Paying in from an account with another financial institution

You can ask your bank to transfer money into your savings account. The money will be sent by either Faster Payments / BACS (this might be referred to as a bill payment or funds transfer when using telephone or Internet banking) or by CHAPS payment.

Your bank will need the following:

Account number - You will need to quote the account number of eight zeros (0000 0000). This is the Alliance & Leicester bank account into which funds are received before going into your savings account.

Reference number - This is your eleven digit savings account number and can be found on your welcome letter or accept email for Online Saver customers. Without this number we will not be able to apply the money to your account and it will be rejected and sent back to your bank.

    Sort code - see below.

    Sort code

BACS payment. This is usually a free service that takes 3-4 working days. You will need to advise your bank that you wish to make this type of payment and quote the sort code:

    Sort Code 72-58-10

Faster Payment. This service means that when you move money electronically either by internet or telephone banking it will usually be available to you on the same day. Certain conditions will apply*

    Sort Code 72-58-10

*If the bank (or account) you have requested the money to or from is not part of the Faster Payments scheme, your money will continue to be moved using the BACS (Bankers' Automated Clearing Services) scheme and will be available for you to use 3 - 4 working days later. The Faster Payments scheme limit is £10,000 for immediate transfers and one off transfers that are set for a future date. The limit for standing orders is £100,000. Standing orders move money to another account on a regular basis. We have lower limits and these may change at any time without us telling you first. Other banks' limits may be different. Additional security checks may be carried out to protect you from fraud. If this happens your money may not be available on the same day.

CHAPS payment. There is usually a charge for this type of transfer but the payment is made on the same day. You will need to advise your bank that you wish to make this type of payment and quote the sort code:

    Sort Code 72-52-52
