I am having more problems since I upgraded to Btyahoo broadband,it's well over 10 days and am still having problems with connection, never connect me first time, am wondering whether when I switch the router on I should give it a couple of mins. Sometimes it worked for an hr or so and then connection is lost. I have bt broadband help who tells me my router is not connected etc., usually after a few tries it connects again. so, it cannot be the router. When I lose my connection, the DSL and internet light go off. I have phoned technical support and they are really hopeless. I have also switched microfilters. Whatelse can I do, it's ok when it works when I was on dial up, never had any problem with it? Really fed up!! Thanks

Is this wireless or wired? which router? Are all your phones plugged into filters?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

First of all, why do you switch off your router? Have you not heard the term "always on ADSL"? What speed are you supposed to get and what speed are you actually getting once connected? Do you have enough filters i.e. one for every device connected to your line?

I am supposed to get up to 8mb speed, but according to BT I can get only up to 3 mb. I am not sure what speed I am getting and how do I check it? I could to do it when I was on dial up by clicking on the icon. I connect through a router bt voyager 210, it's not wireless. According to the instructions, router should be switched off when not in use. I am on Option 1 with internet usuage og 2 gb. Yes, I do have enough filters, one on each phone, two altogether. Is there something wrong with the router? Such a pain talking to technical support, is the call centre in India? Thanks0

Downstream 1,909.5 Kbps ( = 1.9 Mbps )
Upstream 376.5 Kbps ( = 0.4 Mbps )
No idea what does that mean, is the speed nearly up to 2mb. Thanks0 -

That's pretty much the same download speed I get on my 2Mb connection. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

So. it must be OK, before they introduce the up to 8mb, I was told I could get less than 1mb. It's great when it's working. Thanks.0

The poor connection and keep getting disconnected sounds like a filter problem.
You dont need a filter for every phone in the house if the extention comes out of the front of the line box. you could have a double adaptor in there to split your phone near the socket and the one further away in this case put the filter in to the main socket and then the double adaptor in to the filter.
If your extension comes out of the back of the socket and is hard wired in tot it as proper installed extention then you need a filter on the other socket too.
Another thing I have seen reciently is that not all extention leads work with adsl conenctions so try not to use one. and see if things improve.
I thougth I had a picture somewhere online here this is how everything is plugged in here.
Filter in the main socket then the extentio to upstairs then a 2way splitter 1 for the phon 1 for a modem and the other is a dect phone the base station is next to the socket. 4 devices and 1 filter required.0 -
Hi
How about one of these, an ADSL backplate, no filters needed, 2 ports one for your router and one for your telephone line. If you have a normal NTE5 already on, you just unscrew and replace with this, takes about 1min to fit. And can really improve the quality of the connection.

I think you will find, if you trawl around the forums such as Digital Spy as well as elsewhere on MSE that there are many problems being encountered with BT Broadband recently.
The best route to get BT to help is the one that wonderfullife posted yesterday
Go to this URL http://www.btyahoo.com/8mbexperience
and fill out the form with your problem. I did it and they called me the very next morning (this was after having reported the problem 3 weeks back).0 -
I had an awful time when I upgraded broadband with BT from 512kb-2mb. It used to keep dropping the internet connection. I phoned the technical helpline, (waste of time!) they went through all the basic stuff which I had already checked and then decided I needed a booster CD. That arrived, installed it and the same thing happened again. Phoned the technical helpline and they agreed to send an engineer out. Engineer checked everything and couldn't find the reason why. He reported back to BT. 2 weeks passed and still I had no internet (during this time I was still phoning BT every day) I ended up writing a letter and then they sent another engineer out. This engineer removed something (a bell, I think) from the phone socket. At this time BT online help told me to download something (a driver update, I think) and broadband eventually stopped losing it's connection.
It was a frustration experience, one which I never want to go through again. I think we can get 8 mb where I live now but because of the hassle before I'm very reluctant to upgrade.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--
