Utility discount club

Options
sorry this is my first time here so please don't shout at me if I am asking silly questions.

My partner and me had a guy round this afternoon wanting to save us money on our bills it all sounded good until, our neighbour met him at church and said he was cheap otherwise we would never have entertained him
We pay 60pm gas and 30pm el and although he says we can save a lot of money he wants us to still pay the same amount each month but we will get it all back at the end of the year and get money off our shopping if we pay extra for some discount card and leave Virgin for our phone and broadband
I know we have been lazy or silly not doing anything about it before so I looked them up on google and found one of the links to this site and remember seeing Martin on TV telling people to switch
When I use the links at the top of the page to get a quote it seems we can save 275 going to NPower but we don't like them at all after they swapped us to them a couple of years ago without permission, took ages and a lot of grief to get it sorted
but we got told the sites aren\t reliable because they only give companies they can get commission from,
so my question is, sorry for the ramble,
can we ignore the guy from today, the Utilitywarehouse Club and swap to either BG or Southern and just save money off our bills without being scammed ??

thanks for reading

    Welcome to the forum.

The Utility Warehouse(UW) have just about the most expensive gas and electricity in UK. You will pay £hundreds more for your gas and electricity. You can confirm this by going to any comparison website.

Because this firm and their sales methods are so controversial Martin has decreed that there will be no discussion of UW outside of just one dedicated thread. See:

  • Is this a regular thing then ? He was here for nearly 90minutes and was a bit rude when we said we wanted to get a second opinion saying he was a qualified energy expert who else did we know that could help and why hadnt they done so already if they were so up on the industry.

God knows what is going on there,
and I certainly wouldn't want it to spread to other threads.

  • Has Martin really said that everyone has to ask their questions in one very very long discussion thing. How does anyone get an answer to their question without reading all those pages of things nothing to do with their question ??
Seems a bit silly to me but I am not used to discussion forums I thought people asked their own questions if the same one hadn't been asked already.

There are 33,000 UW salesmen. It is what they do all the time.

They pay the company £200 for the privilege of selling the UW products and work solely on commission.

You could become a UW salesmen tomorrow and become a 'qualified energy expert'.

Don't take my word, just read the thread or enter your gas and electricity consumption in kWh into any comparison website and it is a racing certainty that UW will be just about the most expensive. For the average consumption it will be about £300 pa more than the cheapest.

    Normally that is the case.

However this website and every other similar website has been infiltrated with these UW salesmen attempting to misuse the forum to promote their company.

Discussion of UW is banned on some websites for this reason This is from moneysupermarket.com.

Twills, when using a comparison site its best to use your actual annual energy consumption figures in Kilowatt hours, using your current monthly payment figures will not give you an accurate result.
Lots to choose from, I tend to use Energyhelpline myself, but of course there are others.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I have been though the same thing. Put under pressure to sign up. I have a friend who is a consultant or representative. But she is really head strong and loads of people have signed up! Thanks for the thread! All my gut feelings about UW are true!
