I thought I could plug an ethernet into both and transfer that way, but it doesn't seem to show the old computer in the "My Computer" on the new one.
What is the best / easiest way to transfer the files over.
Thanks in advance.
Also, to save opening another thread, how do you take a screen shot?

Why would it? You need to look in Network Neighbourhood.
A far better way would to be to use Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
As for screenshots, press Print Screen key and then open up your favourite image editor, select the edit menu and then paste.0 -
Hi There
In its simplest form - a USB flash drive
Otherwise make sure the computers can "see" each other on the network and transfer manually or via File Transfer Wizard (XP) or Windows Easy Transfer (Vista)
Which OS's are you moving from and to?

From XP to vista0

OK
If you are OK with networking then run the Home Network Wizard in XP and configure Network Discovery and File Sharing in Vista.
Make them the same workgroup name and see if you can see and write to the target Vista machine from XP
Otherwise the USB option saves you configuring this.

Thanks Stu, I think I'll go the USB route........ easiest.0

I would go for the USB option which is going to be easier if you are not familiar with networking setups - ifor instance, if you are not connecting through a hub/router, then you will need a crossover ethernet cable rather than a standard one.0
