Burning DVD from Mac to PC across a network or other cable

This might at first, seem a bit of a strange thing to do.

I have a very large disk image (.dmg) on my mac (osx 10.4), which doesnt have a DVD burner. So, i would like to burn this across a network (or any other sort of supported cable... eg firewire), to an internal DVD writer on my PC.

I can't just copy this file over a network, as this disk image has to be burned using Apple's Disk Utilty - so that the disk is bootable!

Basically, this optical DVD writer drive on the PC has to be mounted on my mac somehow so that i can select it in disk utilty.

Any osx/windows experts out there who know how i can do this please!! I suspect that for sharing reasons on the macosx/unix side, samba is going to be involved here....

cheers:beer:

Doubt if you will be able to do this by using the pc to burn it directly.
You could try to convert the .dmg to a format that the PC can read (use Disk Utility- convert) and then transfer the file to the PC and burn it.

You don't say what Mac you have but if it's a tower then fitting a Superdrive isn't too difficult and you can buy one for under £50. Otherwise, the answer is to buy a Firewire DVD burner and use "Toast" to burn the disc.

Actually, easier still: find a Mac user who has a DVD burner and a Firewire Hard Drive. Borrow the Hard Drive, plug it into your Mac, transfer the file and get him to burn it to disc. :)

If it's a problem, just contact the London Mac User Group. Or the Yorkshire Mac User Group (who have members that work in London).
