Please help!
Soory if this question is a bit basic but the kids are nagging for a ipod nano. They are seven years old and I think they may be a bit fragile for them, has anyone got any experience if these things and children?
Also (and this is really dumb question) can we download music using a windows PC or does it have to be a mac when using a ipod?
Thanks in advance

Songs can be transferred through iTunes on either a mac or a pc....
as for the iPod nano, I have an iPhone myself, however I used to have an old 3rd gen iPod nano and they seemed pretty robust to me...0 -
Get them something cheaper in case they do manage to bust it.0

My nieces & nephews all have iPods in varying models - 7 and 9 year olds have Nanos, 11 and 12 year olds have Touch's
They all really like them - I think it makes them feel grown up having 100s of their favourite songs all to themselves.
On another note, it almost brang a tear to my eye seeing them being held by the headphones and swung like keys on the end of a lanyard, and the kids trying to 'remove' their iPods from a £400 B&W Dock! Ouch! The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

I've got a 5th Gen Nano. So incredibly light !
At least it has no moving parts, but potentially the screen is going to be delicate.
You need to decide how 'gentle' your kid are with these things, before you go spending £100 +. At least the music is 'protected' in case the iPod is damagen, in that you just re-sync to your computer.
And yes, as others have said it will work with a PC, not just a Mac.
Of course, you could always get it for yourself, and 'lend' it to the children if they are good0 -
The Nanos are reasonably resilient. My 10 year old daguhter has an iPod Touch and so far it's lasted nearly a week without getting broken!
No problems using a Windows PC with iTunes, Apple wouldnt sell many iPods if they didn't suppotr Windows!
EDIT: forgot to say you can get cases for them which give a little bit of extra protection. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I have an ipod mini thats getting on for 5 years old now and its a good solid piece of kit. Has survived the occasional drop, or soak, and still goes strong.
I bought a nano for the good lady last xmas and its so thin and light and dainty that I would lose it in my pocket. Its been back 3 times for replacement or repair and the wife is very gentle with it.
I would advise buying a cheap second hand mini 6gb. They are about £30 on ebay and a bit more robust.0 -

Good point - I have seen silicone skins for the 4th Gen Nano in Poundland. I think they were £1 each.
They will also fit the 5th Gen, except there is no hole for the camera lens.0 -
Its never too early to start destroying your childrens hearing, or their ability to interact with others. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

just get them sansa fuzes. The sound quality is better, the volume is limited and theyre about half the price but the storage can be expanded very easily with micro SD cards.
Part of my job is to SELL ipods, but I bought a fuze myself because for sound quality they blow the ipod out of the water. theyre not as fashionable but it depends how much of a price you're willing to pay for following the crowd.0
