On behalf of my sister, being made homeless!

Hi there

Just posting on requets of my sister.

She is 24, Mum is throwing her out (mainly coz Mum is a little unhinged!) and her predicament is....

She is full time employed with regular income plus commission.

Has no debts except a car on finance.

No overdraft etc

Good history with bank

Does not have enough disposable income to rent somewhere on her own, plus pay bills etc.

Could not get a mortgage just on her income and doesn;t have someone to go in with her, or lend her deposit or go guarantor.

So what schemes are there around?? How does she get her own place??

She has considered house shares etc, but doesn;t feel comfortable living with people she doesn;t know etc, she would prefer her own space.

Shared ownership??? Other shcemes that enable people to get on the ladder???

Thank you for your help

Sounds like she ought to reconsider the houseshare option?
Shared ownership schemes never seem highly regarded on here and it would take awhile to sort it out, I presume she is having to leave now rather than in six months time!

Can she move in with you for a while? It would be better for her if she has more time to sort something out

At 24 it's time your sister was moving out anyway! Does she have savings for a deposit and the first months rent? Why can't your sister afford to rent on a full time salary if she can afford to run a car and pay the finance? Has she considered renting a room in a shared house or as someone's lodger? Has she considered selling the car in order to afford a studio flat in walking/ cycling/ public transport distance of work?

I agree with others that it sounds as though she has little option in the short term other than to consider a house share. It may not be what she would choose but unfortunately sometimes reality is like that.

It will allow her time to save for a deposit and meets the immediate need. If she can't afford ordinary rent, I doubt she will have the finances to buy in any way at present.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Get her to ask people at work about sharing. They may even have an intranet which she could advertise on.
