In Windows XP, click Start Click Programs, Accessories, and then Tools Within the System Restore window, click "System Restore Settings" link.
In the System Properties window, check the "Turn off System Restore" box.
Click Apply and then Ok If you encounter problems while attempting to disable the System Restore, reboot the computer into safe mode and repeat the above steps.
If you're disabling the System Restore to help verify no hidden viruses or malware are installed on the computer, after the above steps have been completed, reboot the computer into safe mode and run your anti-virus program within safe mode.
Safe mode = Tap F8 repeateddly on PC startup, once restore is diabled in safe mode just restart the PC as normal and restore should still be off, sometimes just going into safe mode tirns off restore.0 -
No still can't check the box -it's not working (is it something to do with the viruses??) So you now say to reboot into safe mode How do I do this please?? I'm sorry to be so ignorant but this is hubby's pc and he is away and I need to fix this problem. Can you track me through this please I would really appreciate it .Quincy wrote:In Windows XP, click Start Click Programs, Accessories, and then Tools Within the System Restore window, click "System Restore Settings" link.

As explained in post number 2
Safe mode = Tap F8 repeatedly on PC startup, so youll have to restart you PC and as soon as it starts tap F*
Ok a bit more is, with the keyboard arrow keys select Safe Mode Only.0 -
you can run the guide without the restore turn off, give that a go and see if we hit problems
