Getting Credit after defaults

I had a sticky stage about 2 years ago when my credit went up the wall. Burying my head in the sand I change my surname on my accounts to Smith and did a bunk from the houseshare I lived in.

Eventually the council sorted me with accomodation so I registered in a new surname to avoid being traced by my creditors, after speaking to cab about what I had done the fella was genuine & honest he said stop this go & sort it out.

So true to my word I went the solicitor got it all changed back to my birth name & changed on my utilities, rent account and went on the electoral roll.

I have just got my credit file & it reads as this

Current Address

Mr Smith

Halifax Current £5928 default july 2007
Abbey Current £1149 default march 2007
Barclaycard £1000 default april 2007

New Address

Mr Sullivan

Barclays £0 closed august 2009
RBS £0 closed june 2009
Natwest £0 closed 2009
Co-op Bank £0 still open but two entries this one & my birth name(have asked equifax & experian to write to them to get Sullivan account closed

Previous Address

Mr Smith

RBS £0 closed sept 2008
RBS £360 default june 2008

My mum & dad's address traced to under Mr Smith? and letters written there for ages

Natwest £833 default dec 2007

In December after noting my voters roll was on at my address I applied to 02, Capital One & Barclaycard who all refused me. All three Searched my new address & my previous one so my searches are 12 at my new address & 4 at my previous address

Why should I do now wait 6 years for it all to drop off?

For electoral purposes it shows Current Yes added 28/10/2009, Previous 2 years & Previous 2 for 12 years so next October I will have 14 years voters history which is about the only thing I got going for me!

If someone could tell me what to do people who had defaults & still got credit? Do I have to wait 2-3 years now? or full six for all the alias, adverse info to go off?

Many thanks

Oliver

Equifax doesn't show as Aliases info
Experian does showing 6 links but all in my name i used when i moved to my present address & not other ones no sign
Callcredit shows One Aliases on my current home, Another aliases at my previous home to that & a linked address a temp home & my parents as well.

very very confusing this i just wanna get back on track

also experian has 78 linked addresses going back some 8 years.

My experian would be ok apart from the default can anyone suggest a way of getting these removed? by paying them off? or should i just wait another 3 years? as it is about £15k+

  • I think that if you aren't disputing them then even if they are cleared they will still be on your file for the required 6 years. They are listed as satisfied then which doesn't clear them. Can anyone help with my question?
Firstly I'm new to the site, apologies If this post is in the wrong section.

I recently spotted on my Experian credit file a default (£135) on a O2 phone contract. This was a contract which began in March 2004 and finished a year later 2005. I had absolutely no idea about this. I was never contacted from O2 or a collections agency to my knowledge. The default was dated 2006, a year after the contract ended.

On calling them to ask about this account the customer service advisor said there was nothing owed on this account it looked a mess. He even mentioned that it said I'd been made bankrupt which Is nonsense. I've emailed their credit file referral department to straighten this out. He told me I'd done nothing wrong to his knowledge.

So they have left me with a default on a account with nothing outstanding on it. If they, and it looks like it, have messed up will they completely remove this default from my file and compensate me for the difficulties I've had getting credit? This is the only black mark on my name and I feel hard done by.

Has anyone had similar experiences to this, I assume this default has ruined my credit chances since 2006.

    Gavin
  • I have applied to get a credit builder with cashplus in my birth name as well so that will give me some help, but what else could i do? in terms of time

    after a year
    2yrs
    3yrs

I realise with the defaults I am a poor risk, but when they are removed & I have 3 years of positive history with one bank & the studio account I am just gonna keep order small items in order to keep the account open as it only has a £1 Limit.

Things like mobile phones accounts and catalogues, credit cards do I have to wait a couple of years?

If I appeal the declines would that work? as clearly my credit score i too low for the vanquis, aqua, cap 1 & barclaycard inital

why do you need a good credit score?
  • The reason I want to get a good credit rating is I am in my early thirties with no mortgage and a rubbish car, no money! think i shall end it all lol!

Seriously I would like to buy a house in the future and the credit is essential to securing those rates I realise I do not have a great history by it is 2010 and my aim is to save as much as I can and turn my life around.

I haven't even got a credit card! I am told time is the biggest thing with credit once these defaults drop away in 3 or so years I will have had around 15-16 years of address history with 12 years of that at the same address surely it will go in my favour?
