Asking landlord to release us from lease

Hi At the moment, we have a short lease on a shop. The landlord plans to demolish theshop & build housing & originally asked for a lease of 3 months with 3 months notice. That's a shame, it's always better for the tenant if the LL is likely to pick up an empty rates liability!
