How to join 2 doors together

Doing the pantry door and we have to join 2 wickes oak kitchen panel fronts together. the total height for both will be 190cm

it will be on hinges and open outward and we've spent the day making the frame for the doors to sit in/on.

what would be the best way to join both doors together?

many thanks

What if you made it into a bi-fold door?

we haven't got one and it costs £28 a day to hire + buying biscuits.

OH doesn't want to open two doors to get into the pantry.

Currently, the idea is to try and get dowels between them and then some brackets on the back. Would that be ok?

A wide metal strip screwed on the back would do, dowels could be tricky depending on the thickness.

It's not 100% clear from your post......is the join going to be vertical or horizontal?

Are you bothered at how it will look?

I'd go for biscuit jointer as mchale has suggested as there is nothing worse then a bodged job.

Sorry, it will be a horizontal join at the top of one door to the bottom of another door.

Looking at dowel jigs currently :)

Do we need to have a backing plate. as there won't be any weight, could we just not have dowels and wood glue the two of them together?

It will be hinged on the left hand side and each door will have their own hinges....

3 or 4 of them on the inside perpendicular to the join with longest screws that are viable without going through the door (carefully drill pilot holes with depth stop on drill so you don't go too far...it's a pantry door so doesn't matter what it looks like inside ..£2.99:money:

Incidentally might look a bit strange if you push the doors tight together...look where your kitchen doors and drawers meet elsewhere in the kitchen..there's a gap - the connectors i'm suggesting let you maintain a gap.

How much space is there between the door and shelves - could you run some vertical battens up the back of the door?
