Buying TSB Shares

I am asking for some advice on behalf of my mum. She wanted to buy the shares that were offered recently. She received her cheque back as it missed the deadline , got 'lost' for two weeks. That is a difference story. She spoke to someone on the number on letter who said that there was nothing they could do about missing deadline but she could buy shares at market value.

My mum has only ever brought shares when offered them so we have no idea. I have read some of the threads and the main site. Hoodless Brennan seem to be the best bet so far.

I realised that specific financial advice cannot be given but I would appreciate it someone could point me in the right direction. I have no idea about the right time to buy so we are only looking to buy the number of shares we were offered as a long term investment. If she had not received the offer of shares my mum would not have bothered, LOL.

Thanks in advance.

Hoodless Brennan no longer 'exist'. They were taken over by TD Waterhouse.

I dont understand, the recent "open offer" was only to existing TSB shareholders.

I got the impression she is an existing LTSB shareholder, missed the Rights Offer deadline, but is still interested in buying more to add to her shareholding.

Might be worth asking at a branch of LloydsTSB, they may do a cheap commission rate on their own shares?

Thanks for info. I tried the local branch. I was told that they no longer have anything to do with shares but they did give me a number which I will try tomorrow.

I'd recommend the Motley Fool Share Dealing service. You can read about it here:

    http://www.fool.co.uk/share-dealing/share-dealing.aspx

They make it easy to buy and sell shares. Of course, there are other similar competing services and others here may make their own recommendations.
