We used to live in Aberdeen and last year we were sent a letter stating that they would no longer clear our roads if cars were parked in the road.

Now we're in Perthshire I have to say they have been quite good and they were even clearing even the little side roads in our village.....Went to Dundee on Sunday however and it was atrocious.....Lost count of the times i nearly went over, which having a joint condition would have made the pain a lot lot worse...

Aberdeen council has a very poor financial management record, which borders on the criminal given the vast amounts of money that have poured into the town since the Oil Boom of the 70's Its always been a very parochial money grasping organisation. Not a 2 way street. They are currently hell bent on building a very new large prestigious HQ while services to vulnerable groups are being stopped. Moreover council employees are soon to be presented with their new blackberries at a cost of over 200k to the taxpayer
The area I previously refered to in Aberdeen which houses predominantly retired people has never either been gritted before or after the Xmas period nor has it even had any grit boxes. So while many of us have tried over several weeks to shift the ice and snow, and yes I too have the bruises to prove it, short of buying a bulldozer all elderly residents there are basically still trapped indoors.
Meantime the council gritters apparently will not be sent out as the leader of the council has intimated that grit does not function effectively under -3
There is no real planning strategy or any real desire to help residents within Abdn Council, very few council bods are pleasant to deal with that is if they are not on flexi or hols, mostly they are pretty ineffective - After all cold weather is rather the norm in Aberdeen. Unfortunately its a job for life with the majority and there are few individuals from the private sector that would wish to join and remain in that set up even with the current credit crisis.
