Depends how much you want to pay SAP! The Thistle - right by the theatre - has rooms at £157.

Or the Holiday Inn, just across the road, at £100.

Or the Macdonald Shakespeare, in the town centre, at £112.

Or the Legacy Falcon, again in the town, from £65.

This website has others round-and-about Stratford.

The nearest TL is at Alcester - 7 miles away - at £46, or there's a Days Inn on the M40 (bet J12 and 13) for £53 - 13 miles away.

We used to like the Oppo when we lived there for a nice meal out. You need to book.

For cheap breakfast on the outskirts there's a big Tesco's on the main Birmingham Road into Stratford, which has a cafeteria.

Tesco's will be ideal, thanks for that idea :)

Sorry to disagree but the Tesco cafe in Stratford is NOT nice. There is a Macdonald yards from the theatre in the main street or a quite nice cafe in BHS on the corner of the main street and the one the theatre is in. Also there is a Morrisons next to the railway station and the cafe there is nice. Parking in Stratford is DIABOLICAL! Even we locals struggle! They do have a park and ride scheme but have never tried it personally. Have used the P&R at Oxford frequently and its superb so in principle the one at Stratford should be fine. One of the places the Park and ride goes from is the other end of the carpark of the mini trading estate that Tesco is on. What direction will you be coming from? Depending on time of day there are lots of other choices to grab a bite eg the cafe in Debenhams in Town centre is really good and not overly expensive and for some reason rarely seems to get overcrowded. Post back if you want anymore info.:T

Thanks for your reply flossy and sorry I didn't notice it until now.

There are a few of us coming from different directions so wanted somewhere to meet on the outskirts and although the cafe no longer sounds such a good idea the fact that the P&R is nearby will probably swing it for us :)

Debenhams is usually good for breakfast so we might wait to eat in town.

Any recommendations for a bar lunch now, preferably somewhere we can sit outside if this lovely weather holds :)

Hi Edinburghlass. Yep, look for Cox's yard. It's right on the edge of the river (the Avon) but the other side of the bridge from the town. (Stand with BHS on your left, the main street with eg M&S in it behind you and you will see the bridge infront.Over and on the right is the 'yard. Lots of outside eating space. Should you be unlucky with the weather, go back towards the main town ie over the river towards BHS again, up the side of the river, passing the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on left hand side and the 'Other place' will be on your right. Go right the way up to the top (Shakespeares grave is in church to left at the top of this road). Turn RIGHT and a little way along on the right hand side is a lovely period building, one of the Shakespeare trust houses, and inside it has a sweet cafe, not too pricey or OTT. It used to be run by Druckers (Viennese patisserie) but haven't been for a while so not sure if it still is. You can be sure if I go anywhere it is truly moneysaving!!:rotfl: Come back if you want any more info.
