HELP PLEASE!!! new Ipod Touch

Sorry if I am being totally dumb (par for the course....)

My new Ipod arrived today from Amazon. It just dropped through the letter box with the rest of the mail, so it is a good job it came encased in a sturdy plastic box....

But that's the problem I have spent the past half hour trying to work out how to open the plastic box. I know, I know.... but can someone please help me before I take a hammer to it :o

  • I think there is a piece of sellotape around the join. Just peel off or cut with your nail or scissors and open. the case is in two pieces joining along the shortest edge.
    HTH.

Thank you both so much! I now have it out of the box! (Well it is a start!)

The good thing is that I have spent the past few days uploading my cd's to itunes, downloading a few songs from amazon and itunes, and generally getting a feel for how it all works.

I've never used an ipod (in fact I've never even seen an ipod touch) so I'm hoping it will all be as user friendly as itunes. I bet I'll be back for more advice tho

Oh, one question about itunes. I have my laptop and netbook set up for homeshare, but do they both have to be in the same house when I use it? I'm off to Turkey in Feb and will be taking the netbook with me. Just wondering if I'll still be able to access homeshare or if I should transfer everything I want to the netbook before I go?

    Thanks again :j

The next problem once you have all the tape off and opened the lid, is not to skin your knuckles trying to get the ipod out of the cradle. last thing you want is a Bloodied Ipod Touch.
have fun with it, it will run your life if your not too careful with all the free apps.

I suggest getting the free apps
App miner -finds all the free and lowered priced apps easily.
Remote - Controls Itunes on your computer that has a wifi connection.
You can also watch BBC iplayer via the safari browser I bookmarked it and have a direct icon for it. Needs Touch to be on a wifi network.

  • The homeshare thing only works when the computers are connected to the same network, so no it won't work when you're in Turkey. Copy your stuff over before you go :)

Lol! Okay so now I have the Ipod out of the box, with unblemished knuckles!

I'm a bit fazed by the talk of apps, but have 5 weeks before I go to get fully conversant with it. I will be on a wireless network while I am over there, so BBC iplayer is good to know about - I'll be on a fairly remote farm staying with friends, so it will be good to keep up with Eastenders! Is there something similar for ITV?

Oh and thanks for the heads up about the home network - I'll make sure I copy everything over to the netbook before I go.

so far only BBC works with the touch it detects your device when you go to the BBC iplayer website, so nothing to download ,just navigate the easy and decidcated website and watch and enjoy. you do need the wifi to use it , there is no way to download the programs in advance like you can with the computer player version.

Apps are the applications they keep advertising on the TV, there are games and even a facebook farm type game for free too that you not have to play when on facebook, you can play all the time anytime.

Don't forget to install Itunes on your computer and set up an account, because without one your Touch just looks good but won't do anything.

I'm pretty sure that I've seen on this forum that iPlayer is only available in this country.

That is without a lot of faffing around with proxies etc.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Ah, yes I should have thought about that - there are a lot of sites that can't be accessed in Turkey, I can't even get u-tube there.

Nevermind, I'm taking some DVDs (yep, I'm a luddite) and hopefully I'll work out how to download films from itunes before I go.....

EDIT - just a thought, is it somehow possible to upload DVDs to itunes (or at least to my netbook) in the same way as cd's? Or is that asking too much?
