Overpaying my CC while using Direct Debit

Hello.
I'm currently paying off a balance on my credit card by making the minimum payment by Direct Debit each month.
From January I'll be able to make additional payments each month. Now, on the CC statements it says that the direct debit will normally reflect additional payments received.
So I'm guessing that this means that if I over-pay by £50 the direct debit will reduce by the same amount. Am I right? If so, how can I make additional payments?
Thanks for any advice.

Usually if you pay an amount before the direct debit date then aslong as its over the minimum payment they dont take the dd. If its a percentage of the minimum payment then Im not 100% sure if they would then take the remainder by dd.
This is where online banking becomes invaluable as you can pay whatever whenever you want and still know that the dd is set up to take minimum payment just incase.Credit card and overdraft at 18. 2 loans and 3 storecards at 20. University education flushed down the toilet through debt at 22. Car finance at 23. Car repossessed at 24. Rock bottom at 25. Learnt my lesson 26-33. Now 34 with a mortgage on an affordable house, a car paid for with cash and a bank account in credit. I learnt the hard way.0 -
if you make payments say the same day as your dd is taken then you should be fine0
