VGA and DVI Output

Hi, Right i am going crazy here with this computer.

Yesterday i had it setup to the following

VGA output to TV
DVI out put to Monitor

There was no extended desktop (hate that tbh). no ATI software installed it just loaded both displays.

But since i have formatted its not working and its driving me mad i cant think of anything else to enable that again without the ATI Software and extended desktop.

Any ideas people.

Have you installed the drivers for the monitor ?

The ATI software is just a utility so you can remove it once the drivers are installed.

I dont believe i had monitor drivers before.

What happens it shows both displays at post and loading windows screen when it finishes loading the tv cuts out No signal.

    What OS ?

Is there a "Detect Displays" button in the properties?

Not familiar with ATI but surely there must be a "Clone" option as well as an "Extend Displays" option.

What version of Windows? Is it detecting both displays in device manager etc? Does it have anything in Display Properties like this? I'm using extended desktop with two monitors, but you can choose to have it duplicate the output or whatever.

    Ye its windows XP.

and i am abit geeky i cant stand any graphics software installed i.e control panels or right click links. I hate extended display it so annoys me. And ATI does have a clone screen but one monitor will show video playing and one will show a black screen do display mapping is needed to be changed.

A simple VGA and DVI outputting the same display is what i had before just not sure why its messed up after formatting.

Yea its more on the lines on a duplicate output onto 2 screens. Without the need of extending

I assume that you have an ATI graphics card, so you will need to install the ATI video drivers - which will include software/utilities - to get the full functionality. The inbuilt Windows driver is likely to lack in many areas.

It seems odd if you had no 3rd party apps before and had the option but don't now.

Is your copy of XP up to date with all Service Packs and Windows updates (maybe the option you are looking for was introduced with an update)??

ok so i have installed the HP 1502 driver (cheap monitor off ebay)

    Installed ATI drivers latest version.

The hp monitor light stays green but says no input signal which is quite strange as it would normaly go orange if no input was detected.

I dont really wanna install the ATI catalyst control centre as it bugs me.

And yeah it has SP3 and all available updates installed.

    Any ideas on that info.
  • Install the ATI Catalyst Control Centre, it has all the tools for multiple monitor control.
