Just tired to download the latest Zone Alarm Update on my parents computer. It won't as it is Windows 98. Zone Alarm are not covering Windows 98 now as Microsoft are stopping support for Windows 98 from July.
Are there any firewalls that will support a 98 system now?
The PC is still really good for 6 years old and my parents don't really want to buy another.

The old one should still do the job. If they have broadband, a router is a good additional measure for blocking inbound traffic.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I don't understand why you think that you need the very latest version of Zone alarm for use on an old outdated operating system i.e. Zone Labs will cease to support Windows 98/98SE/Me with the introduction of our version 6.5 ZoneAlarm, therefore you are using a version compatible with your OS.

Whilst it may not block the latest attack types the people writting the attacks will be aiming at people with more up to date OSs anyway. Just keep what you have got.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Zonealarm doesnt support ICS. (if you are using ICS ofcourse)
I would remove it and use http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm0 -
by default, routers block everything inbound
I'd turn off upnp.
If it is wireless, encrypt it with wpa, and turn off ssid broadcasting https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm
you can check your firewall here:

If the router is doing it's job, then zonealarm shouldn't get any inbound alerts, bit is useful to stop outbound rogue software etc.. (provided that they don't click allow, everytime they get a prompt)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I found out while researching problems I was having with Zone Alarm that in one of the recent releases they were found to be reporting information from the users computer back to parent company. When challenged they claimed it was "a bug". Just thought I'd add this in case others are worried about this sort of thing.
