do refurb laptops come with user manual?

After weeks looking at different laptops I panicked and yesterday bought a refurbished Acer Aspire 5542 15.6 4gb ram/250gb hard drive from Argos ebay clearance bargains for under £300. I was delighted with the price but now starting to panic whether I've done the right thing or was just desperate to make a decision and should have waited! Anyone know whether these usually come with an instruction manual?

Probably not, but more often than not you don't get a manual with a new PC - or recovery disks. Argos clearance should be fine, they have a good reputation.
Manual will be either electronic on the laptop, or you can download from ACER.
Make sure you create the recovery disks when you get it using the Windows utility.

I've bought 3 refurb laptops from Dixons.

None came with manuals but I think that's the norm these days. You either check it on websites or on a supplied cdrom/dvd rom.

And as davb says - recovery discs require to be made up.
Personally I think it's a con since I bought Windows on the laptops, I want a disc but that's the way they operate so you either accept it or don't buy.

The Argos Returns computers are supplied as new, with all of the original accessories.
  • "It depends".

Some I get come with manuals in which case they'll get passed on. Pretty much all the ex-display stuff has manuals. As CHR15 said though, you can download the manuals online. As for restore discs, according to Microsoft if a refurbished computer doesn't come with a restore partition or restore discs, then even though there's a licence sticker on the computer, its not a valid copy. Currently they're on a witch hunt on people who sell refurbished laptops on Ebay and I know one guy who settled for £1000's because someone did a test buy on one auction and even though it had a CoA, they said it wasn't legitimate without the restore discs. You can use this as an argument to get a set from Dixons etc.
