"Anybody who has used a SHELL garge within the last six months should now seriously consider changing their PIN numbers they've got for their credit or debit cards"

Nigel Evans MP: Radio 4 You & Yours, Monday 19 June 2006.

At least SHELL took positive action. In the USA if an ATM or PIN pad is rigged, the - operative has a legal responsibilty to inform consumers who've used their equipment that their accounts / PINs may have been compromised.

Why aren't we afforded the same?

Why aren't those who have lost faith in PINs, feel insecure using a PIN and don't want to be held liablie for something the industry can't keep secure themselves not be informed that they can continue to Sign by opting for Chip & Signature

Good old Nige - only a few months out of date!
This is old news and is typical of a politician to try and make political profit out of the situation.

    Nige adds,

"Some people unbelievably use passwords or PIN 1234, 1111 or 2222. I know trying to remember all these passwords and PIN numbers is complicated, but people have to be more careful about passwords that they are choosiing and indeed change them"

Although the spokesperson for the Banking Industry participated in the programme, she failed to tll Nige or mention that consumers don't have to have a PIN to remember/forget/compromise. The can opt for Chip & Signature and continue to sign.
