yes sorry it was just sending me back to start in normal mode every time I hit safe mode it would just return to the same page so I hit safe mode networking and it also did the same thing would only let me start up in normal mode I can try again as it was a few days ago, also I know I sound really dim but dont really understand the instructions with regard to manually delete in explorer, highlight the directory, hit delete.

In windows explorer (not internet explorer), find the directory

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\munw.tmp

highlight it, and hit delete.

Then right click on recycle bin, empty.

Then delete

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

make sure you highlight exactly as specified, before hitting delete.

Did it come with norton on originally?

There are some remnants of norton liveupdate left, this may help remove them

have looked for C:\WINDOWS\Temp\munw.tmp but unable to locate dont really understand if I am doing this right gone to windows explorer done a search for this but not finding anything so sorrrrrrry

right think I have sorted found c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts but it has also found the same but with imhosts should I also delete this one or just hosts, still unable to locate

Your hosts files been infected


Download HostsXpert

and then follow the below steps.

* Unzip HostsXpert.zip
* It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
* Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
* click the Make Writeable? button.
* click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
* Click the X to exit the program

If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download
