Laptop battery voltage query

Options
I need to replace my worn out battery in my computer. I can find the part just fine, the same part number as on the battery I have.

But the battery I have says 14.8Vdc, anything I can find on the internet says 11.1V.

Will it work on my computer? If it does then I suspect it will take longer to charge?
I don't post much, but when I do it's all good!!

You need to look carefully at what the wording says before the 14.8Vdc.

It is quite possible for a battery to be specified with a charging voltage of 14.8V and a nominal terminal voltage that it provides to the laptop of 11.1V - so you may in fact be looking at exactly the right part.

Thanks fwor. I did try to reply last night but just missed the cut off before the server went off.

The wording before is "Rating". I have tried to look for some specs for the machine but as yet can't find any. It is an EI System 3089. A cracking computer by the way as long as you are not a gamer.

Does that throw any more light on it?

Not really! - laptop battery ratings are more normally expressed in terms of power capacity (the 4400 mAh figure to the right), not the voltage. The good thing is that even if it does take longer to charge, a lower voltage is extremely unlikely to cause any damage.

It may simply be that the battery maker has expressed the voltage under different conditions than the OEM battery. If you still have doubts, I would write to the replacement battery supplier and ask them to confirm that it is compatible with your exact model before buying.

Well I found one, and I mean ONE!

I put a search into google for the battery number and the 14.8v and came up with one for sale in the phillipeans I think.. well ebay/ph. whatever that is.

The guy was also selling some on ebay/uk, and there it was. It is in China though. I don't buy from there normally even though it is much cheaper.. I like to keep our boys going if I possibly can, but on this occassion none of them were selling the 14.8v one.

    It's on it's way.. so here's hoping!

Many thanks for you help on this one.
