8C? with 300mm of insulation - what is it? 300mm of ice?
Either you live in the Arctic or your house has serious thermal problems. Do you have any windows? That must be unliveable.

That's detached bungalows out in the countryside for you when we get cold snaps. Can't say I'm ever cold in bed though.

Wow I wish my bedroom only dropped to 12C. I have 300mm loft insulation and still wake up to temps of 8C once the heating has gone off.
I was in a place where it was -28 and the house was by a lake which had totally frozen over, the house had external shutters on the windows, underfloor heating and you could sit on the sofa in shorts and a tee shirt watching TV. Boy would I love to have a house so well insulated and heated in England ;p

I agree entirely with diable. Why would you provide a means of heating without providing any means of keeping the heat inside the building. Amazing!!
Does your landlord know that there is no insulation?

He does now! I'm not entirely sure if it was the landlord who was scrimping by not insulating the property or if it was the builder who built them on the landlord's behalf. Safe to say he's getting some installed next week. I shall let you know if he does!
  • its not just the loft that escapes the heat.
poor insulated windows, dodgy doors, sometimes air wents etc.

The way the walls are built affect it too.
    Though loft insulation helps.
For best results a layer need applied as the joists go and then to cross it over with another layer .. rough cost to buy around 200 .. if you were in london i d give you 4 big rolls, sick of them ocupying my garage 1 year now

How can a new build get signed off without any loft insultation whatsoever (or is it a new conversion)? If so he should get the builders back in to correct this at their cost.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
