Saving for a Grand Child without them knowing

Hi All

Question given to my by the Mother-in-law (So help me please!)

MIL, does not speak to parents (my OH's Brother and his wife) of her grand child, but she would like to save effectively for her a variable amount as and when she can.

She was told that to have the account as tax free (because it is for the child) she would need to provide the birth certificate, but they will not provide / she will not ask the child parents !!!!

Any tips for the MIL to save for the Grand Child?

Currently has £200 set asside, and can not fix a montly amount, so realy as samll as possible.

suspect for her 16th 18, th or 21 st Birthday, She is 2 now.
Thanks

She can just open an account in the childs name with her as the signatory and then hand it over whenever she feels appropriate.

I first I thought great we have a solution, but then I remembered, the Grand Daughter was born in Gibraltar when her parents where posted there (Her Father is in the Army)

Is it still possible to get the birth certificate?

    On this page:
    http://www.gibraltar.gov.gi/contact-us

    It lists this information:
Reistry of Births, Deaths & Marriages
    Registry of Gibraltarians
    Executive Officer - 200 51725
    Birth, Deaths & Gibraltarian Status - 200 78303
    Email Address - bdmregistry.csro@gibraltar.gov.gi
    Marriages - 200 72289
    Emial Address - marriages.csro@gibraltar.gov.gi

Their spelling leaves much to be desired, but I hope it helps you :D
Gibraltar's country dialling code is 350.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.
  • Thanks for the replys. I did try to post this yesterday but the site was down.

I though she was born in Gib, the fact that she was born on MOD property makes thinks a bit different.

    This link

Also alows you to state overseas births and specificaly MOD, so should work.

    Thanks All.
