I have been trying to update my Java for a few days and keep getting the message
Installation Failed, The wizard was interrupted before Java 6 update 17 could be completely installed. I have unistalled all other versions of Java in case this was the problem and tried to install it with the firewall off but cannot get it to install
I am running windows vista and mozilla firefox. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Had same problem, went to Java help pages found the problem acknowledged for some systems. On this page found an offer an off-line install programme which I downloaded and voila! Good luck:beer:0

I decided to try and go down the offline route and thought I'd succeeded as the product was registering but then:eek: I got the following error message
Error 1906. Failed to cache package C:\Windows\Installer\2ccle.msi. Error:-2147286775.Tesco: £1361.19, Vanquis: £2644.73, Very: £563.08, Next: £1636.95, M&S: £1049.92. As of 5th February 2024. Slava Ukraini0 -
Sounds as if it might well be an MS Install Manager problem. Maybe a deletion of your download, restart and then fresh download will do the trick. If this fails then perhaps a registry cleaner/repairer will help. If you do go down the reg route do remember to set a restore point before running the programme - bit of hard learned experience there! Good luck!0

If your java won't update, best to uninstall it completely, then re-install via the website

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Try to reinstall the java.0

It's difficult to diagnose these problems without getting hands-on.
If you've tried reinstalling different versions and still no luck, then the next thing I would try is to reinstall the latest version of Windows Installer itself:
From this page: (as a new user I can't paste proper links!!! copy and paste the following into your browser address field)
microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4
Download + Run "Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu" if you are using 32-bit Vista (probably);
or "Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu" for 64-bit Windows.0 -
Try this removal tool ~
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/javara/javara/JavaRa/JavaRa.zip?use_mirror=mesh
then Download CCLEANER
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)
then attempt to reinstall java:idea:0
