I applied for an Argos Extra card that had been pushing in most of their stores this Christmas in mid November to help my bank account cope with the blackhole that is my kids presents this year.
My main problem is not with Argos but the company that delivers their cards DX.
"DX (Secure Mail Services) is a specialist delivery company by Argos Financial Services to ensure your delivery reaches you safely and securely. This is now available for delivery. Please contact us at your convenience to confirm the preferred delivery address and date."
I called on the 17th of december and agreed a delivery on the:
-22nd of december.
I waited in all day(as DX only specify "between 9am and 5pm") and at 4.50pm I called and the extremely unhelpful staff at DX's call centre said it "was with the courier and would be delivered today" It wasn't.
-23rd of december.
I waited in all day again and called at 10am, 1pm and 4.30pm and each time was promised it would be delivered today. It wasnt!
-24th of december.
I called at 10am and was told it was being delivered on the 29th of december!(thus making it useless to buy xmas presents with!) I argued with them an
got a manager to call me back.
-manager called but was no help at all
-found out their depo was less than ONE MILE away! and offered to pick it up myself but "sorry we dont have the facilities to do that"???
-29th of december
I waited in all day AGAIN!, called AGAIN! was promised it would turn up today AGAIN! it didnt AGAIN!
-30th of december
who knows??
I dread to check my phone bill as the call centres a 0844 number which im assuming(assuming because No one at the call centre actually knows how
much they charge!!) is a premium rate number.
So short of hunting down ALL DX staff with a claw hammer i really dont know what to do!
any advice would be welcomed. where do I stand legally for example??
Thanks in advance. Maki

Surely with all this hassle and them having a premium rate number, you should go with your gut instinct that it would be best just to cancel the card and not have it? If it's hassle now, it's bound to be hassle in the future too.
Besides, the kids would have understood if you'd bought them presents in the January sales due to money difficulties. They wouldn't want to see you get in debt over Christmas.
Besides, have you seen the interest rate on those things?!?! Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise??
EDIT: Have you tried going to www.saynoto0870.com to look for an alternative number?
Also, an 0844 number is only a maximum of 5p/minute I think, so not too bad...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

When I applied for the card it was mid november and i was told "7-10 days" and its taken over 8 weeks in total! so its more about the company taking the !!!! and my kids are 6 and 3 so january sales and santa being late is not really an option.
Cheers about the 0844 number thing, thats cool atleast.0 -
So you gave 7 days for it to be accepted and delivered.
Yes its them to blame for you not having xmas presents hmmmmmm0
