My new TV won't turn on?? Socket problem?

Ok, here is the problem:
I've plugged it in the bedroom, turned it on, new batteries in the remote control but no power? At first I thought it was a "dud" tv and was ready to take it back to the shop but then I tried the TV in another room and it works fine
It seems to me that maybe there is a problem with the socket but my old tv and all other appliances still work with said socket?
I bought a surge protection extension lead just in case there was a problem there but the tv still doesn't work with that. (It works with the surge lead in the other room)
So what do I do now? It seems to me like the current isn't that strong in the bedroom to power up the tv but I'm not sure.
Any options before I call an electrician?:o

Contacts in the socket or maybe a wire is loose. I have this problem in kitchen dodgy socket in a double socket. Easy to fix and get a new socket much less than £10 in price but obviously some care and turn power off before replacing0

It's not the socket if only 1 in 5 works! More than likely a loose connection on the TV and you happened to just get it lined up on the one that was successful. Could be in the plug / wire / connection at the TV end. If the plug isn't moulded - might be worth a quick look ............ otherwise take it back?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

Are you sure the plug goes fully into the socket? For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

I had the same problem and it WAS the TV! I bought a new one, got it home, plugged it in and it was completely dead. Changed the fuse, batteries but still nothing. Took it back to the shop, they plugged it in and it worked! Took it home again and it worked. Next time I switched it on, nothing. Left it plugged in cos I was busy and 2 hours later it came on! Then nothing again - took it back and got a new one!0

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes its fully plugged in and it only works in one socket in the whole house. I think it needs to go back to be honest. I was going to take it to a friends house to test it but I think i'd rather not take the risk.
