Anyone know which Nissan Micras have the cheap £35 road tax? Im buying a used one but the car tax calculator shows them all being £125.

Thanks

1.5dCi Visia, Accenta, Tekna or n_tex versions should be £35 per year RFL.

  • Rates of tax change next (financial) year but I think £125 band is unaffected.

I think confusion is caused by the changing of bands and their meanings.

In 2008/9, vehicles with 101-120g/km CO2 were band B and charged at £35
    121-150g/km CO2 were band C and charged @ £120

In 2009/10 this changed and band B was for cars 101-110g CO2. This was £20 but no Micras were in this category afaik
    111g - 120g /km became band C and was charged at £30

in 2010/11, the same bands exist but the charge rises to £35 for band C
(but they are free in first year)

A bit more digging and it only appears to be the diesels that are £35.

No offense to my girlfriend but I simply dont trust her to not fill the car up with petrol in error so a petrol engine it is!!!

Put a sticker on the outside of the petrol flap saying "DIESEL". That is what the hire companies do.

I suppose if it comes down to which is the better car then if its the diesel Ill take it.

Theres the odd 05/55 plate Micra with about 40K on the clock for about 3 grand! I reckon a bit more digging and Ill get one for about £2,700. Only problem is Im talking about English prices, cars are way dearer up here.

I went down to bristol for my car last year!

What sort of mileage are you doing. Diesel cars are expensive right now and for many lower mileage drivers you never actually recoup the premium you paid as you don't save that much in fuel. A small saving in road tax may well not amount to much either.

My girlfriends commute to work amounts to 30 miles a day, so approx 600 miles a month on work alone. Not a lot really is it? I reckon she will probably do about 10K a year.
  • I have a 1.5dci micra and it is £125 road tax - strangely though it has a renault engine (so I am told) as in the renault megane - apparently the renault megane 1.5dci is only £35 road tax so I don't know why it is the micra diesel is more. We have debated querying this with the dvla (but haven't got round to it as yet)

My diesel micra averages 66 mpg and I drive about 25 miles each way to work - the amount of money I have saved on fuel alone more than compensates for it not being in the low car tax bracket. Would highly recommend the 1.5dci - it has aircon, cd player, electric windows/mirrors etc - what more do you need?
