How are Classified ads different?

I'm looking to buy something and I didn't even know eBay had classified ads. What's the purpose of them?

they are exactly what they say they are classified ads, its just like an ad the newspaper but a lot more people get to view the advert

I wondered if there were different rules or something. I'm trying to look them up on eBay, but the help function is playing up.

They are like a BIN with Best Offer, except the transaction is not carried out on eBay, and no feedback is left either way, and there are no fees on the completion of the sale.

The rules on what can and can not be listed in Classified Ads are also a lot more relaxed, and it's not unusual to see blatant adverts for websites and "free ipods" in the classified format. Not all categories offer the classified format though, which is why it is a bit difficult to search for them.

they seem more popular for motors and alike, higher value items, but others are using them to spam for such items like steve has mentioned

If an item seem cheap then it could be a scam,be carefull if they will not accept cash on collection and insist on delivering after you have transfered funds.

How does a private seller like me list an item in the classifieds?

Can't seem to find a way.
