Id say you disk is faulty.
if you have a valid key download office from one of the torrent sites.
Or download the trial from microsoft and convert it to the full version using you key

Have a look in c:\windows\temp for a setup log, it may give more details on the error.

Unlikely the Cd is faulty, unless it is obviously scratched imo.

I assume you have enough hard disk space to complete the installation?

I have tried using all of the methods suggested - I downloaded the trial version but it wouldn't install that either - I got exactly the same error message as above - what now??? - I have however got an old office 2000 disk and key from a friend and that installed fine - so that now I have office 2000 and the readers for later versions.

I would of course like to get back my Office 2007 so keep coming with the ideas.

Thanks again to those who have so far tried to help me.

Update - Problem just solved - I found this program on the web -''ripoutoffice2007'' - i used it - then I went to regedit and deleted everything to do with ms office - and magic - it worked.

Then I was able to reinstall.

I now have Office 2007 back.

I don't know why, but never mind it worked - thanks again to all who offered help.
