Credit Card Refund

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some kithchen appliances on-line at a cost of over £1200. At the time we were quoted delivery date of two weeks which suited as it tied in with our new kitchen being installed. However a week later we found out that delivery would not be until the end of July - seven weeks from ordering. As a result we were allowed to cancel our order.

Shortly after cancelling I received my credit card bill and found that my card had been charged within one working day of placing my order - this is a bit disappointing as I would have hoped the charge would have been made at a time closer to the point of delivery.

It is now over a week since we have cancelled our order and the money has not been added back to my credit card account - I have phoned the company to query why and they tell me it can take up to 30 days to make a refund (yet they are able to charge your account within a day)

My credit card bill is due for payment in a couple of days and I am reluctant to pay for something that I have not and will not be taking receipt of.

Can anyone suggest a way in which I could obtain a satisfactory outcome? If a refund is not made soon and I have to pay the credit card bill I am considering writing to the company seeking a refund for the loss of interest forgone. Any views?

Sorry mate, you are definately getting the run around...

A refund via the credit card merchant only normally takes a maximum of 3 days if it is done electronically. In the case of my shop, Barclaycard mechant services handle all Visa / Mastercard & Maestro (formally switch) for us and most refunds are processed the next day.

I can forsee the company you have delt with, issuing the credit card company with an old style refund slip which can take up to 4 weeks to process.

I can only suggess P***ing them off by ringing every day the refund isn't in your account. If you did this to me daily, I'd be prone to getting your problem sorted so I'd get rid of you!

    Definately go for interest lost!!

Tell the credit card company that the amount is in dispute and pay the rest of the bill. You should not be forced to pay interest on a disputed amount.
