Please can someone help me with this im now at my wits end!!!
I bought my daughter a pc for christmas 2008, it was delivered on the 18th December 2008 and used for the first time on Christmas day 2008.
Since then the computer has been sent back on a number of occasions as it does not work properly, everytime it gets sent back to me apparently with no problems that needed fixing, the last time it was returned to me (approx 7 weeks ago) it was smashed, PC World tried telling me I had done it!!! I told them I hadnt done it and wanted it sorting, they took it back and "repaired" it!
I then plugged it in again and now the disk drive will not open...AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! Im getting so mad with it all and now would just like my money back so I can go elsewhere! Will I be able to get my money back as it was purchased over a year ago now?!?

Don't they come to you. I'm on my 4th home visit tomorrow by the way for my current pc (just over a year old).
My previous PC was an Advent I had for 10 years, with very few problems. Yes, I eventually added a new hard drive for extra storage, replaced my DVD drive, and added more memory, etc, but this was negligible spread over 10 years.
Computers are generally reliable, but occasionally you just get that duff one.
PC world have been nothing but helpful in trying to remedy my problem, so have nothing negative to say about them, although I know I will never buy a Packard Bell again, no matter how tempting the offer looks for the specs.0 -
A green light lights up when i press eject, and the drawer does usually eject.
The original fault was that it wouldnt connect to a monitor, we tried it on several monitors before we returned it the first time, since then though it has had a number of faults.
Ive never heard of home visits from them, ive always been told to return it and it gets collected and returned via courier!0 -

I haven't purchased any extra cover. Mine was just a week shy of my 12 month warranty expiring, and they have sent an engineer out every time, although they have mentioned that it would be sent away for repairs if they couldn't fix it. Perhaps it depends on which store you bought it from.
I hope it gets sorted soon anyway.0 -

have you checked it wasnt added at purchase?
its just why would pc world send an engineer out for a PC when everyone else has to take them back to store?0 -
I haven't got any extra cover, just the 12 month warranty. They wanted me to sign for a cover plan, which I cancelled when I got home.
Their warranty does state that they "can offer in-home service on desktop PCs absolutely FREE of charge", see link here. I'm not sure if this covers laptops though.
They did ask me to take it into the store the 3rd time, but eventually agreed to an engineer visit, as the original problem wasn't resolved.0 -
I have had no end of problems with PC World this year over my laptop, My first one had a power cable fault which meant that it would not charge, that was fixed but they screwed the graphics card up and tried to blame me, the new one I had had for 4 months before the HardDrive failed losing all my photos and college work (thank fcuk for backup) I have now got a new one after being fobbed off by store after tech guys told me I could have a new one.
But keep fighting them, I am now on first name terms with the staff in Pc World and they sweetened my wait by letting me have some software and extra bits for the trouble I was caused.Of all the things I have lost I miss my mind the most£2,960 in debt to RBS paying off at £10 a Fortnight0 -
I had an engineer round today (4th time!), and it looks like everything is sorted now. Just persevere, and hopefully you'll get sorted out. I hated being unable to use my PC properly.0
