I bought a Zen sleek photo today and I'm really dissapointed. Firstly, I charged it, when that was done I turned it on, then it crashed. I reset it and it came on, then I realised that one of the earphones didn't work, grrrr.
I am also having enormous trouble with the vertical touch pad, it does what the heck it wants regardless of what I want it to do. It took me half an hour just to set the time, I was almost crying in fustration. To top it off, I am unable to transfer most of the music I have tried although the software looks ultra easy to use, much easier than the Zen Nomad.
Its hard to tell with just one earphone working but it doesn't sound great quality & not very clear at all and its not terribly loud even with the volume right up. Every now & then I get a burst of interferance, its not on the song when played on my laptop and it was from an original cd.
Its driving me mad, please help! Have I just been unlucky & got a faulty machine? Is is worth me getting a replacement or should I just get a refund?
Thanks
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
My son bought one yesterday and has been using it today. His first impressions were that the touch/scroll bar was way, way too sensitive for his big fingers, he's used to the scroll bar as his previous iRiver had one but this was ultra sensitive. He's found out you can adjust the sensitivity like this:
Adjusting Vertical Touch Pad settings
You can change the Vertical Touch Pad's sensitivity and turn the Vertical Touch Pad's clicking sound on or off.
- Press and hold the Menu/Back button.
- The main menu appears.
- Select System -Player Settings -TouchPad.
- To adjust the Vertical Touch Pad's sensitivity, select Sensitivity and use the Vertical Touch Pad to scroll to the setting that you want.
- To turn the clicking sound on or off, select Clicker: On or Clicker: Off
This did make a difference but he was still not convinced, however this evening after much use he said it was a lot easier and he was well chuffed with it.
Re the headphones, he says the jack plug is very tight/stiff so it may be yours isn't pushed right in (this could also possibly be the source of the interference)? Also try someone else's if you can to see if it's the 'phones or the player. He says the sound quality is (in his opinion) very good even using the standard headphones.
He's also uploaded 839 songs and 25 pictures tonight using the supplied software which looks very easy to use and worked flawlessly.

Sounds like you've got a lemon there.
I have owned 2 different Creative MP3 players and, although they take a bit of getting used to,once you "click" they are a friend for life (Or until a better one comes out).
With regard to volume they definitely aren't as loud as the equivalent iPod but that's no bad thing if you want to still be able to hear music in 20 years time.I invested in a little fold up pair of Sennheiser headphones for mine and it makes a world of difference as the in-ear things you get with MP3 players are not all that.
I reckon you should exchange it and give a good one a go.A greedy man's bag is never full0 -
Thank-you both very much for your advice.
The vertical pad is not just sensitive, it just doesn't seem to work at all, if I keep keep it depressed up or down, it should scroll quickly but nothing happens on mine, it won't go up or down unless its by fluke! This makes it almost impossible to change any settings, last night I could even manage to get it to view my photos. I've had Creative MP3 players before and found them so much easier to use than this.
I think thought, after your comments, I will get a replacement rather than a refund though, last night there was no way I was going to do this but since you both seem happy with yours I'm going to give it a go. I can't find anything that fits my budget and has as much capacity as this one anywhere else.
Thanks again,

Guess what? The head phones work, it was like you said, they were very stiff & not pushed in fully. The sound quality has improved loads now too! Thanks for that!
