Laptop DVD player really quiet

As the title says really. When I play DVDs on my laptop (dont have tv/dvd player) the sound is very quiet, even when turned up full. I don't have the same problem with itunes/iplayer/4OD etc so know the laptop is capable of making more noise! Does anyone have any suggestions please? I can barely hear it.

Many thanks

Where are you turning up the volume? In whichever application you're using to play the DVDs or in Windows Volume Control?
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

In the application (ASUSDVD). Would it help to do it in Windows? If so, how do I do that please ?(sorry, I'm not very clever:o)

    What OS are you using?

Assuming XP in the system tray on the right of the taskbar there should be an icon that looks like a speaker. Double click on it and it should bring up a screen with five sliders.

You can then adjust the volume of various things like the PC speaker, CD Player etc.

Have a play with those and see if it fixes it.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Dvds are generally recorded in 5.1 Dolby Digital which by their very nature tend to be pretty 'dynamic' sounding, which means voices etc will be very quiet on a laptop as the system is designed to be used with an AV amplifier or suchlike

  • Found it! It has made enough difference to make the dvd watchable, many thanks.
