Tried to install this hub today. Linksys says that the operating system will go ahead and install the driver. Although the puter sees that I have the hub plugged in, nothing else is happening so the device is not working. Tbh, I am surprised that it needs a driver.

You and me both, especially for XP and above - those hubs (and switches) are most often 'plug and play'. Which operating system? Do any of the indicator lights on the hub appear when you plug in a cable?

XP. Only the power light is on. Makes the ding dong noise when I plug it in and the dong ding noise when I unplug it, lol.

So, when you try and 'install' the driver what happens? Does it get rejected by XP? Also, what particular set-up are you trying to achieve here? Is, say, this hub being attached to an Ethernet router?

Getting no request from windows regarding driver installation. Quite simply i am just trying to expand my ports to run extra stuff. Again, rather surprised that it`s mains powered.

^Nothing unusual about that IME. The driver issue is perplexing. It should (and usually does) just auto-detect in XP.

Ah spotted it! I have only tried to use a device that is powered up by normal usb ports. Ie, draws it`s working power off the port. Just read that this hub does not produce power in that way. Thanks for bothering helping me. Happy New Year!

When you use the hub - with some models you can get away without using the hubs own power pack - It depends on what you plug into the hub.
For example if you are using a printer with its own power supply - chances are you wont need to supply power to the USB hub - it will be happy enough with the power it takes from the PC.
If you are using something like a joystick which doesnt have its own power supply - then it may not work properly without powering the hub directly.
