Tyre choice advice

I've had an advisory note following my car's MOT, saying that two of my tyres are worn down. They passed, but I assume they'll need replacing asap.

It's the first time I've had to buy tyres and I'd be grateful for any advice about what's worth paying for - there seems to be a huge range on the websites and I have no idea what half the features are, never mind whether they're worth the extra money! I will ask the local fitters, but would like to have some info to double-check what they tell me.

I drive a short commute most days but long trips about every month. The long trips involve both motorway and rural roads, and may be in any conditions. I'm happy to pay extra for added safety, but not just for the look of the things!

Any thoughts or pointers to a 'dummies guide' would be great. Many thanks.

What car is it and what size tyres do you need?

What make of tyres is on it now?
  • Kumho KU31 if you can find them. A good budget tyre which comes in the top few for wet conditions. Lasts a long time and isn't overly noisy.

Worth getting one of these and keep an eye on your tread depth - if you are well above the legal min of 1.6mm you could consider swapping front to back (i assume it's the fronts that are going)

If you have to buy two new ones post your tyre size here and let the guys show you how to hunt around for the best deal.
