Should you tip hairdressers?

I get my hair done as a model. I always tip as the rest of the cut/colour is normally free but there are some occasions when I don't such as at acedemys where you pay your £5/£15 and join the queue- you leave and have already paid or when I really don't appreciate something they have done. (One girl did an elasticity test on my hair after stripping the colour. About 20 times in the space of 5 minutes. The hair was still on my head.)0

Ive visited the local college quite alot to get a cheaper hair cut off the students { the ydo get overlooked by the fully trained teacher } and everyone has to learn.
When I first visited the girl was extremely plesant , chatty and nice to both my friend and I . The first time she had ever done a colour was on my hair - And I had 3 totally different colours put on it at the time.
I think she did a wonderful job and everyone comented on it , so basically I tipped her a tenner because I still saved a small fortune by visiting the college and not a high st hairdresser . She was extremely pleased with it and wouldnt take it at first , but I also know how much hard work she put it to it and also think that would give her more confidence and experience for the next one , plus also keeping her keen to do someones elsesEbay Bag A Day Challenge 2012- :staradmin

I used to pay £17.00 for a wash, head massage, cut & blow dry at a small local salon, it had a lovely atmosphere, great staff and they used Tigi products. I always left a tip of £2.00 and would buy them biscuits, chocolates & wine at xmas.
She has now gone mobile due to a wrangle over the lease/rent of the shop, the charge is now £14.00 the only difference is I wash & condition before she comes to my house.0 -
As a hairdresser myself i thought i'd put my opinion out there.... sometimes i get tipped, sometimes i dont, when i do it's lovely, but i don't mind if people dont, i would never hover around waiting for tips! At christmas i tend to get prezzies off my clients (wine, chocs, gift vouchers, etc), which won't cost as much as tips combined for a year (if you know what i mean?) but i appreciate it because its a nice prezzie0

I always tip the hairdressers, locally we use an out of town hairdressers and its her and 1 other lady, there mum, me and dd, tend to go the same time, we usually tip her £5 from the 3 of us, usually just dry cuts, but at xmas we get her and the other lady a xmas prezzie. we pay £30 for 3 of us.
Yet when we go to Rhyl, we can get the 3 of us done for £12...... still tip £5.
If its just me tip £2 for a cut, if its highlights its £5.00
I know theres always people who say we never tip, they get paid for the service, but then their is the debate of postman, milkman, bin men etc. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I usually tip my hairdresser but it often feels awkward as I usually pay for the cut by card and then have to tip in cash.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

When I was a student I didn't tip but took in a present at xmas (e.g. bottle of vodka or champagne) but now I leave about £5. My cut costs £45 so I make it up to £50 but even if I get a more expensive thing done like colour or permanent blowdry I still leave £5.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

i usually always tip the hairdressers if i am happy, just a couple of quid, and even if i pay by switch i tell them to round it up to a couple of quid higher and they take the difference from the till (they are allowed to do this at my hairdressers).. my hairdressers dont charge a fortune, if they did i probably wouldn't bother with a tip,
i always think back to when i was a barmaid, the people who would buy their drinks and say "take one for yourself" were the customers i remembered and served first the next time (not cos i wanted another tip, but cos they'd already bought me a drink/tip):beer:totally a tog!:D0 -
I give the person who washes my hair £1 or £2 if I have had a colour. Is this enough - I am in London?0

I usually tip my hairdresser as he really takes his time to do a thorough job (about an hour for a wash, cut and blowdry) and gives me lots of tips on how to style my hair. Plus he knocks off £3 as I work in a shop in the same street as them (some sort of association thing) so I usually give £5 as a tip (Costs me £20 for the haircut which would cost £23 so I would have rounded it up to £25 anyway iyswim)I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul, I want you to notice when I'm not around0
