But having worked as a waitress many moons ago, I can confirm that not only are Australians never going to tip, they will treat you like a piece of dirt in the process and usually complain over the size of the bill.
Pity really, Kiwis have always been nice, so it's not just backpackers generally.
can i just say some stylists dont rent a chair therefor dont actually make anything from a haircut, ie set wage at the end of week,.
o and £40 is mega dear for a hair cut , its £22 where i am, but i spose area changes etc..
i would tip if i liked my hair :jplus tips are not expected0 -
Didn't realise that, but all the hairdressers in my shops (5 of them!) are all owned by the same bloke, who rents chairs, so I'll stick to what I have already said about them. I'd tip if they weren't - up to £5 if I love the cut.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

I tip my hairdresser but then again I always ask for the most junior stylist as it is cheaper. Plus I have my hair dyed that takes ages and I think they have worked hard for 2 - 3 hours so a tip is deserved.0

I have my hair coloured, cut and styled. It takes in total about 2.5-3 hours.
I never tip them as I pay a fortune for the privilige of being pampered. I work hard to earn the money to do this.
After all they are just doing their job and I don't get tipped for doing my job so why should they?I am a Mortgage Adviser

Thanks ever so much for that - I did do a search but clearly I wasn't typing the right phrases!!
Thanks again
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
What tip would you give for a really expensive treatment, such as extensions which can cost £350 upwards?0
-
Whoops - didnt know you weren't supposed to tip the owner.
I feel obliged to tip - I feel a skinflint if I don't but how much depends on my own finances, mood and satisfaction at the time. I pay £55-£60 a time and average tip probably £3 to £5. These days I usually ask for it to be split between the stylist and the junior or give it all to the junior because, getting a colour and cut each time, other than the cut itself (trim) the junior does the majority of the rest and I do find most juniors do a better blow dry too.0 -
I used to tip my old hairdresser she made a good job but for 1/2hr cut and blow dry I was paying £37! They kept increasing their prices and I got fed up with it! Have recently tried somewhere else who is a tenner cheaper but haven't tipped them either as my hair just needs a tidy up usually."That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0

I do tip but I now feel like a skinflint as I dont tip a much as you lot:eek::rotfl:**"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin."**0
