  • I just found a Guarantee document from a company called Uretek Ltd about slab stabilisation that was applied to the lounge/dining area of the house.

What is slab stabilisation and could this be related to subsidence? I cant find any documents that say the building was actually underpinned? I think I will have to try and get in contact with the original owners and ask them.

As you never declared it to the current insurers, you are in effect uninsured now anyway. Any claim would almost certainly be rejected on non-disclosure.

You need to go to a broker and not use the internet. Internet insurance cherry picks the simple stuff. They leave the more complicated cases to brokers.

If the property is mortgaged, the lender will insist on buildings insurance. So, going without would be a breach with them as well.

Thanks, I've just been in contact with a broker and am in the process of getting it sorted now. Hopefully I wont get raped with a new premium! Like I say, may well be selling up in 2-3 years anyway.
