Hellooooo
Well im thinking of renting out my house come september time so ive been looking at all the things ill have to do/update/improve before renting it out.
When i moved in i had an electrician come round and he deemed the electrics as being safe after he fitted a new trip swich box thing.
However all of my plug sockets are the old type that have no on/off switch. Basically you just plug the thing in.
a) Do i have to change these to rent out
b) Is it an easy thing to change? (when i say easy i mean blonde airhostess easy?)
c) If i cant do it myself how much should it cost to change 11 of them?
Thank you and I LOVE MSE you have all saved me a fortune!!
TD xx

A) dunnoROTFL no not really that easy, (it is easy, but it's "I can change a plug and solve the little problems that come up too" easy) Nothing to stop you trying. If you have a bare copper wire in there besides the red and the black you should buy some earth cable shielding and cut a bit to cover it up (this part is blonde air hostess easy)
c) dunno 60 - 100 ???0 -

I think the answer to your first (a) question is 'NO'0 -
can you not get sockets with the on/off switch from DIY shops, wouldnt you get a reduction if you bought the sockets yourself and then got an expert in to swap them overNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

a) No. So you don't need b) and c) ....however:
b) Does your airline allow singed blondes to work? In other words ......... if
you have to ask .... it's not easy.;) But it is dangerous.
c) £40 to £60 for replacement sockets. Up to £100 to fit them.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Excellent thanks for your help!
If i dont have to have it done i wont bother changing them!
But thank you for showing me screwfix!! What a great site! That will come in handy for soooooo many things!
Thank you all for your help!
Rofl at Mikey I think its safe to say they wouldnt appreciate me being singed and knowing me i would be. Definatly not going to attemp it myself! Might have to do a "dadddddyyyyyyy please could you help me Again!"0 -
I think all electrics in rental propertys are only supposed to be worked at by electricians .however as its not rented out at the moment you can do what you like .So maybe daddy can do it .0

You're suppose to have the electrics inspected and tested on change of occupancy with a rented property - dunno if anyone actually does having never rented anything myself.Nothing to see here, move along.0

toolstation.com is cheaper than screwfix and a local electrical supply shop will also be cheap for this sort of thing.0
