I cant believe the price of CARDBOARD coffins with a starting price of £2800!!!!!! What are they lined with - gold?????
  • The package costs are made up of lots of things, not just the coffin cost. A cheap coffin is about £200, whereas a cardboard coffin is much more expensive as they take more time to make (surprisingly) or that's what the manufacturers tell us! something today to reinforcing them so they are strong enough to take the weight

Debt as at Feb 14: £2272.40

There is that to consider. My brother was offering to find a couple of cardboard boxes and fit the roofrack to his car, but he was over-ruled in favour of the cheapest one on offer from the FD.

I do like the idea of an outer sleeve which is removed before cremation.

  • a colleague of mine once did a funeral for a chap that had made his own coffin, although his two sons did have a bit of trouble putting in the back of their volvo estate once he was in it!

Did they not do a trial run before he was in it?

  • yep, but it was lighter then. also hearse's have roller built in the back so it's easy to slide the coffin in, the carpeted back of the volvo wasn't very slippery!

  • Condolences to the OP and family. We found that Coop were very expensiveand opted for a local firm who handled everything wonderfully and sympathetically and charged about £800 less. My dad was cremated but we opted to have his ashes buried in the local cemetary along with a memorial headstone which we arranged direct with the stomemason.

But if you are doing them yourself, make sure you have a couple of spare ink cartridges at the ready. ;) And do them in good time. You do not want the stress of running out of ink on the day of the funeral.

My step dad asked if we would all lay a single flower on his coffin during his service rather than have large floral tributes, or donations to our local hospice in his memory.
Personally the single flower suggestion was the loveliest thing we could have done, it was very dignified, just like the man himself.

Thats a brilliant suggestion; I'm going to have that at mine

Hi, The coffin cover looked like a real coffin, the cardboard coffin cost just over £100, i dont know who would pay £2500 for a cardboard coffin.

If you would like to see what its like heres a link, http://www.funeralsearch.co.uk/coffin-cover.php If you scroll down you can see its just a plain brown cardboard coffin which neatly tucks inside, NO One knows at all.
