Are you outlining the depreciative quality of the Laptop in question (possibly suggesting poorer quality) or are you demonstrating the build quality of the MacBook as proven by it's value retention?

I would certainly expect a ThinkPad with retail value of £1500 to be of better build quality than a MacBook though (and do actually think that too with regards to the ThinkPads in that price range), but the pricing is far in excess of the OP's budget and hardly a fair comparison between laptops.

To the OP: You seem to be weighing up your options carefully, so whatever you decide will be right for you :)

No, badly chosen example. I'm saying that people pay through the nose for second hand Mac books despite them not being built as well as others.

    thanks
i think if i could, will go for macbook pro
but if mine does die very quickly i'll go for a dell £399 job say

i don't mind paying for a second hand apple if it was £300-400, but for an old macbook white of decent spec still looking at £500-600, which is silly when i've seen refurbs, online, higher education (possibilty) which would be similar price

fingers crossed 2010 will see a prosperous new year ;-)

refurb shop i've seen a few times:
    original macbook white 13" @ £579
tempting, but is it a little out of date for the price?

apart from the new unibody on the new white macbook, what else is different between the old and new white version?

i tend to look after my stuff, and know the original white is prone to crack, but i would get a case like speck.

    thoughts?
still out of budget, but something to keep an eye on for me
